Six killed in Tallinn apartment blaze

TALLINN -- Six people were killed in the early hours of Dec 4. when fire swept through a rundown building in Tallinn's Kopli district.

The victims were believed to be homeless people who were squatting in the building.

According to the Rescue Department, an emergency call wasreceived at 00:18 local time.

Of the eight persons found in the building, six had diedand two survived, with one of them requiring medical assisatnce.

According to preliminary reports, the victims probablysuffocated as thick smoke filled the two-storey wooden building.

The flames were put out by 2.30, while police continued togather evidence to identify the victims.
