The premier told the press after a meeting with President Valdis Zatlers that he will ask to PAbriks to remain part of the government. However, if he does not manage to convince Pabriks to stay in the office, he will look for another candidate.
Kalvitis declined that his chief of staff Maris Riekstins is being pencilled in for the position.
Kalvitis emphasised that Pabriks still is the foreign minister and the premier has the right not to accept resignation.
On Oct. 19, Pabriks announced that he is stepping down from the position of the foreign minister due to disagreements about the current direction of government policy, but Kalvitis told the press that he will not accept the minister's resignation.
