TALLINN - Finland could try to act as a mediator bewteen Russia and Estonia in a belated attempt to get the Nord Stream gas pipeline project back on schedule, according to Russian press reports.

Following a meeting between Finnish President Tarja Halnoin and Russian President Vladimir Putin, the PBK newspaper quoted anonymous sources saying that Finland might be willing to try to change Estonian minds.

Referring to the same anonymous source, the Russian paper hinted that a return to pre-April transit volumes passing through Estonia from Russia might soften Estonian opposition to the pipeline project.
