Swedish insurer in Baltic move

STOCKHOLM - Swedish insurer Lansforsakringar is to move into the Baltic market.

Lansforsakringar is Sweden's largest non-life assurance insurer, formed from a network of 24 independent regional insurers throughout Sweden. Its Baltic operations will concentrate on the Latvian and Lithuanian markets, providing vehicle and home insurance services.

In Sweden the regional insurance companies have more than 3 million customers, accounting for a third of the entire non-life market. Its share of the market for life and pension assurance is 12.0 percent, and 3.0 percent of the bank market.

Lansforsakringar manages assets totalling SEK 140 billion (15 billion euros).
