Lithuania Prime Minister Gediminas Kirkilas pledged on May 23 that Lithuania will further support the European Humanities University (EEU), which found shelter in Vilnius after being banned from Minsk.
The prime minister and the Secretary of the Nordic Council of Ministers Halldor Asgrimsson discussed cooperation in funding the EHU.
After the Belarusian Education Ministry stripped the university of it's education license in 2004, the Lithuanian government, the European Commission, and the governments of other countries agreed to support the operation of the university in exile in Vilnius.
The Lithuanian government has allocated more than 4.5 million euros to the project, but, in the prime minister's words, the donating countries must decide how they will further fund the EHU operation.
The Nordic Council of Ministers and the Nordic countries are one of the most active supporters of the university.
