Ojars Kalnins has been director of the Latvian Institute since 2000, when he took over the post from now President Vaira Vike-Freiberga. Previously, the institute had focused on distributing information about Latvia to researchers and journalists, but they have now taken on a more active role. This year, the institute is launching a new "nation branding" project in conjunction with Simon Anholt, a leading expert in the field.
