As the Latvian presidential elections rapidly approach, there is still only one candidate who has been officially named for the post 's former foreign minister Sandra Kalniete of the opposition New Era party.
Latvian Prime Minister Aigars Kalvitis named on Tuesday three possible candidates to represent the ruling People's Party. Foreign Minister Artis Pabriks, Municipal Affairs Minister Aigars Stokenbergs and head of the premier's office Maris Riekstins were all named as possible candidates.
Pabriks declined to comment on his potential candidacy, but noted that "this is not normal when candidates still have not been announced one-and-a-half months before the presidential elections."
People's Party is set to officially announce it's candidate for president on April 27.
