Social Democratic Party is leading the municipal elections

VILNIUS - According to preliminary data, the Social Democratic Party under ex-Prime Minister Algirdas Brazauskas is leading in the municipal council elections that took place on Sunday [Feb. 25].
The Conservatives under Member of Parliament Andrius Kubilius are second, the Liberal Democrats under the ousted President Rolandas Paksas are third, the Liberal Centrists under Mayor of Vilnius Arturas Zuokas are fourth, the National Farmers under Agriculture Minister Kazimira Prunskiene are fifth and The Labor Party under ex-Economy Minister Kestutis Dauksys is sixth.
After midnight, the Central Electoral Committee has already received data from 1,321 - more than one-half of the total 2,028 constituencies.
According to the data available to the CEC, 36.5 percent of voters had voted before 7 p.m. During the early voting this week, 1.04 percent of electors had voted.
There are 60 constituencies in Lithuania; voting started at 7 a.m. and polling stations were closed at 8 p.m. There are almost 2.7 million of registered voters in the country.
