Controversial Lithuanian politician Viktor Uspaskich has been refused permission to leave Russia.
Uspaskich fled to Russia after he became the center of investigations into alleged corruption within his political party, the Labor Party.
After seeking asylum in Russia, he later decided to return to Lithuania to stand as a candidate in the municipal elections.
However, his lawyer told BNS that Uspaskich was now unable to leave Russia, and suspects that Lithuania may have renewed efforts to have the former politician formally extradited to face charges.
