RIGA - With respect to the movement towards visa-free regime with the U.S., Latvia and other U.S. visa-free Road Map countries have been invited to a meeting with representatives of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to be held on Jan. 24 in Prague.
The meeting is taking place upon initiative from the U.S. and intends to discuss the eventual changes in the U.S. Law as a result of the announcement by President George Bush in November 2006, and to discuss the criteria to be met by each Road Map country. During his visit to the NATO Summit, President Bush expressed his readiness to review the criteria for visa exemptions between Latvia and the U.S.
Representatives from the interior and foreign ministries of the U.S. visa-free Road Map countries (the Baltic states and the Vishegrad group countries) and diplomats from the embassies of Greece and South Korea in Prague have been invited to this meeting.
