Swedish foreign minister to make a state visit to Lithuania

VILNIUS - Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt is scheduled to pay a state visit to Lithuania.
Bildt, who will arrive in Vilnius on this evening [Jan. 12], will discuss topical bilateral and regional policy issues during a dinner with Lithuanian Foreign Minister Petras Vaitiekunas. The ministers will focus on energy projects that would help overcome the energy isolation of the Baltic states, diversify energy supply sources.
The Lithuanian and Swedish foreign ministers will also exchange opinion on the countries' priorities on the European Union's agenda for the first half of this year, will discuss other topicalities of security policy, peacekeeping and the spread of democracy, the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry has reported.
On Saturday, the Swedish foreign minister will meet with Lithuanian President Valdas Adamkus, Parliamentary Speaker Viktoras Muntianas, Prime Minister Gediminas Kirkilas. Bildt will also attend a solemn parliamentary meeting on the occasion of the Freedom Defenders' Day.
This will be Bildt's first visit to Lithuania after his appointment as foreign minister.
