RIGA - The Latvian police has in a week completed investigation of a case against a businessman suspected of having given a bribe to the traffic police and the prosecutors have already brought charges against the man.
The Riga county prosecutor's office confirmed to BNS that businessman Gatis Saknitis on Jan. 12 had been charged with giving a bribe to a state official. Such offense can fetch up to six years in jail.
Saknitis, who was initially taken into custody, was released on Friday but he is not allowed to leave the country. The decision was made because most of the evidence had already been collected and charges have been brought against the man, therefore there is no reason to think that Saknitis might interfere with the investigation.
