LATVIA
RIGA BASS DAY 2007
Jan. 13
For those who don't know, the electric bass guitar is a string instrument similar in appearance to an electric guitar but with a larger body, longer neck and scale length that produces a lower pitch. And the sound it makes is, well… the soul of rock and roll. This month, Riga is celebrating this iconic instrument in a festival devoted entirely to the bass. Although similar festivals are organized annually in the U.S.A. and Europe, this is a novel event for Latvia. Anyone who loves jazz, rock, latin, funk - you name it 's should join the party in honor of the instrument that makes it all happen.

LITHUANIA
FILM FESTIVAL
Jan. 19
The monthly Lithuanian culture magazine "Pravda" has asked its readers to look back at 2006 and vote on the nation's best "newcoming celebrities." Once the lucky names are chosen, the magazine will hold a public award ceremony, which will be one posh party indeed. Let's face it: you'll never be VIP enough for attending the Oscars, but who needs Hollywood when you can spend a night with some of Lithuania's biggest stars. At least you'll have something to gush about at the next high-brow cocktail party.
