Infobalt EPA, Lithuania's association of electronics producers and importers, has announced an international tender for the purchase of electronic waste recycling services. The association expects both Lithuanian and foreign companies to take part in the tender. Applications may be submitted till Jan. 26. "The main criteria would include a reasonable price, the bidder's recycling indexes, transparency in accounting, and the type of recycling technologies applied," Edgaras Kriukonis, Infobalt EPA director, said in a statement. The winner of the tender will recycle old equipment to be delivered to special electronic waste collection sites. Infobalt EPA unites 33 companies, including well-known producers and traders GNT Lietuva, Sonex Technologies, BMS, TD Baltic, Snaige, etc. The association, which was the first in Lithuania to obtain a license on waste management last year, aims to process some 4,000 tons of waste this year and assign some 200,000 litas (EUR 57,971) for a public education program. The members of association account for some 60 percent of electric and electronic goods supplied to Lithuania's market. Lithuania must launch electronic waste management programs due to provisions of relevant agreements with the European Union.
