Pabriks congratulates Bulgaria and Romania on accession to the EU

RIGA - Foreign Minister Artis Pabriks has sent letters to the Foreign Minister Ivailo Kalfin of Bulgaria and Foreign Minister Mihai Rizvan Ungureanu of Romania, congratulating the people of both countries on their accession to the family of members of the European Union.

"Latvia highly estimates one of the basic freedoms of the European Union 's the free movement of people. I have the honor to announce that on Dec. 19, Latvia adopted the decision not to impose workforce restrictions on Romanian and Bulgarian nationals," wrote Mr. Pabriks in the letters.

Minister Pabriks regards the relations of Latvia with these new EU members as being good and constructive, and expresses the hope that they will continue to develop both bilaterally and within the context of the European Union.
