RIGA - The EU Presidency has released a statement about the conference on the Holocaust held in Iran.
In addition to the joint declaration of the EU, the Latvian Foreign Ministry would like to state the following: "On 10-11 December 2006, Iran hosted an official international conference on the Holocaust. Its purpose and contents questioned the tragic history of the Holocaust."
Latvia is an official member country of the Task Force for International Co-operation on Holocaust Education, Remembrance, and Research which was established shortly before the Stockholm International Forum on the Holocaust held in Sweden in 2000.
At the forum in Sweden, heads of a number of states including the President of Latvia, Vaira Vike-Freiberga, joined the Stockholm Declaration. The Latvian Foreign Ministry condemns and rejects as unacceptable the statements questioning the generally-recognized history of the Holocaust.
