Lithuanian President visited Taras Shevchenko University in Kiev

KIEV/VILNIUS 's During his working visit to Ukraine, President of the Republic of Lithuania Valdas Adamkus on Nov. 15 visited the National Taras Shevchenko University in Kiev.
In his address to the students and the academic community of the University President Adamkus remarked that Taras Shevchenko, who spent several important years of his youth in Vilnius and since then had always carried the image of the Old Town of Vilnius, the enchanting beauty of St. Anne's Church and the unique Gates of Dawn in his memory, has remained a symbol of Ukrainian national independence and a figure signifying the cultural tolerance of the Old Vilnius in the historic mind of the Lithuanian people.

The Head of Lithuania reminded that both states 's Lithuania and Ukraine - live in a region between the Baltic Sea and the Black Sea where the fates of many people and nations have intertwined and intersected in the course of centuries.
