Adamkus celebrates his 80th anniversary

VILNIUS -- Lithuanian President Valdas Adamkus is turning 80 on Friday and will spend his anniversary in his office in Vilnius.
Parliamentary Speaker Viktoras Muntianas is scheduled to congratulate the president at 10 a.m. local time, followed by members of the government 30 minutes later.
Adamkus held his birthday party at a restaurant on Saturday.
Adamkus was born in Kaunas on Nov. 3, 1926, but emigrated from Lithuania to the United States after the start of World War II and spent 50 years there.
Adamkus was first elected the president of Lithuania in 1998.
Upon winning early presidential elections in 2004, Adamkus was sworn in as the head of the state on July 12.
