Kalvitis continues to lead the next government

Latvian president Vaira Vike-Freiberga, after meeting with current Prime Minister Kalvitis today, announced that she would nominate him officially to stay in the post on Nov. 7. Kalvitis has said that the ruling coalition should contain four parties. In the new government, the Peoples Party will have 23 seats, the Union of Greens and Farmers and New Era will have 18 seats each, Harmony Center 17 seats, Latvia's First Party/Latvia's Way with ten, For Fatherland and Freedom/LNNK - eight, and For Human Rights In A United Latvia - six seats in the 9th Saeima. The current ruling coalition parties the People's Party, Union of Greens and Farmers and Latvia's First Party/Latvia's Way, earlier agreed to nominate Kalvitis for the premier's office again, and said that they would form the core of the next government.
