VILNIUS - A 20-year old Lithuanian man has been targeted by the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigations over allegations of electronic crime and credit card fraud.
Paulius Kalpokas from Kaunas was arrested in a special operation by Lithuanian police and U.S. officers. The FBI has requested that Kalpokas be handed over for prosecution.
He was arrested after a year-long investigation which cracked down on a group of hackers and fraudsters who targeted online shops to steal credit card information and send viruses.
Hard discs from Kalpokas' computers will be examined by computer experts.
According to the daily newspaper Lietuvos Zinios, the FBI first warned Lithuanian authorities about suspected hacking as long ago as mid-2005.
