Pabriks meets with Belarus Ambassador

RIGA - Latvian Foreign Minister Artis Pabriks on Oct. 18 met with the Ambassador of Belarus, Alexander Gerasimenko, who had arrived on an accreditation visit to Latvia. Ambassador Gerasimenko confirmed the decision by Belarusian law enforcement agencies to dismiss a criminal case involving the Latvian diplomat, Reimo Smits.
In respect of the above-mentioned incident, the Belarusian Ambassador admitted the fact of unintentional violation of the Vienna Convention. Minister Pabriks expressed the hope that bilateral relations between both countries will in future be built on the basis of careful consideration. Ambassador Gerasimenko expressed his country's interest in promoting bilateral co-operation, particularly in economic, technological, border-guard and other sectors.
