RIGA- Europol Director Max Peter Ratzel arrived in Riga for a two-day visit to discuss Latvia's adoption of the European National Criminal Investigation model.
Ratzel is scheduled to meet with Latvian Interior Minister Dzintars Jaundzeikars on Sept. 15 and Europol's Latvian office head Dmitrijs Ceplis.
The officials will discuss the development and adoption of the European criminal model in Latvia. The meeting aims to create an effective policy against organized crime by working out a professional and disciplined investigation approach.
Since Latvia has a history of international bankcard fraud, the Baltic state last year joined Europe's Terminal project, which focuses on counterfeit credit cards. The Europol director and local law enforcement officials hope to launch a new subproject in Latvia.
