Tartu University's rector, Jaak Aaviksoo, plans to resign to top the election list of the Pro Patria and Res Publica Union, the Postimees daily reported.
"The situation calls for people who so far have taken no part in politics to join the game," Aaviksoo said. "However, before drawing any final conclusions, we should wait till the party formally asks me to take up the role of candidate for prime minister."
Aaviksoo has already given his informal consent to the two parties.
