Four convicts escape from jail

RIGA - The Latvian National Border Guard is operating at a heightened state of alert and has notified neighboring countries about the escape of four criminals from a prison in Riga.
National Border Guard Chief Gunars Dabolins told the Baltic News Service that officials had reacted to the jailbreak, which occurred on Aug. 9, accordingly. "We respond to such situations in cooperation with the National Police, the Interior Ministry and the Prison Administration," he said.
Four convicts escaped from the Riga Central Prison after cutting the bars of their cell and climbing over the prison fence.
