VILNIUS - Prime Minister Gediminas Kirkilas presented the new foreign minister, Petras Vaitiekunas, to the Foreign Ministry today.
"I am glad that the Foreign Ministry will be headed by a well-known person, ambassador, March 11 Act signatory Vaitiekunas. The Foreign Ministry is entrusted to firm hands," the prime minister said.
Noting efficient work of the Foreign Ministry, Vaitiekunas said that "life will dictate necessary changes."
"I see an enterprising and diligent team, their words and ideas should be heeded, and I think that we will overcome new challenges," the new minister said.
Kirkilas thanked Antanas Valionis, who headed the Foreign Ministry from 2000-2006, for his significant work. The prime minister stressed that Valionis and his team had successfully tackled complex issues of EU and NATO integration, Kaliningrad transit, and the EU's Eastern neighbors.
