RIGA - The Latvian Welfare Ministry has proposed simplifying the work permit procedure for foreigners, thereby reducing administrative obstacles to employers and transposing EU requirements.
The proposal was announced at a meeting of state secretaries July 13.
According to draft regulations, employers will no longer be required to present a certificate from the State Revenue Service. Rather, the employers can simply state in writing that they do not have any tax debts.
And approval by the employer is no longer required for the Citizenship and Migration Board to grant work permits to foreigners recognized as victims of human trafficking in Latvia.
