VILNIUS - After the Prosecutor General's Office decided to bring suspicions against the Labor Party as a legal person, Viktor Uspaskich has resigned as chairman of the party, said acting head of the Labor Party, Loreta Grauziniene.
Labor Party leadership received a letter of resignation from Uspaskich, who had earlier suspended his powers as party chairman and left for Russia over a month ago.
A party congress is planned to be held in the near future to elect a new leader.
According to unofficial information, the suspicions brought against the Labor Party by the Prosecutor General's Office stirred up considerable discontent within the Labor Party's faction.
