VILNIUS - Vandals have torn down 19 monuments at a Jewish cemetery in Vilnius.
Valentinas Kotovas of a Vilnius police commissioner's office has told Lithuania's national radio that a cemetery administrator saw overturned monuments on Sunday and called the police.
Simonas Alperavicius, chairman of Lithuania's Jewish community, said that the culprits must be found and punished.
One of the graves broken was that of Lithuanian linguist Chackelis Lemchenas.
A pre-trial investigation has been launched into the act of vandalism.
