VILNIUS - President Valdas Adamkus has expressed concern about his nation's worsening human rights situation.
Adamkus met with the director and chairman of the Human Rights Monitoring Institute on June 2 to receive a report on the implementation of human rights in Lithuania.
He expressed concern that the situation had worsened since Lithuania joined the European Union in 2004, the Baltic News Service has reported.
Adamkus also asked for proposals to improve the situation.
The Human Rights Monitoring Institute has strongly criticized state institutions, the legal system and the activities of bailiffs.
