Russia takes over the Ukraine 6:0

On May 11, in a Group F qualifier Russia got on track in the final period to notch a 6:0 win over the Ukraine. Maxim Sushinsky contributed two goals for the Russians - a close-range power-play goal at the 16:06 mark in the first period, and another power play shot with 1:03 gone in the third.

Alexander Ovechkin scored the third goal with 6:06 on the clock. With Ukraine at a two-man disadvantage, Denis Kulyash's powerful slap shot found the box with 8:19 gone. At equal strength , Sergei Mozyakin scored the fifth goal for the Russians at 13:47, Igor Grigorenko the sixth with 17:03 on the clock for the final.

"I represent my country, and I try to win every game," said one of the best Russian team's player Alexander Ovechkin. "But our goal here is to play in the finals." The second period was scoreless.

Sergei Zvyagin guarded the net for Russia, but was replaced in the middle of the third period by Alexander Fomichev. Igor Karpenko stood for the Ukraine.

Russia had 50 shots on goal, the Ukraine - 25. Next up in the qualifying round for Russia - Switzerland on Sunday.
In the preliminary round, Russia finished in first place in Group C, while the Ukraine was third in Group B.
