254 people detained by Latvia's National Border Guard

RIGA 's Since April 28, when it tightened border control before the World Ice Hockey Championship a total of 254 people were detained by Latvia's National Border Guard for various violations.
Among the detained are five people who produced six fake documents when attempting to cross the Latvian border.

Latvian border guards detained also ten suspects, including five Latvians, four Lithuanians and one Italian citizen, wanted by law enforcement authorities. Border guards detained also five people who had been placed under police supervision and were prohibited from leaving the country.
Officers detained 13 foreigners without the necessary visas and 16 citizens of foreign countries who had violated visa regime.

As many as 18 people were stopped on the state border, as they could not produce valid passports or other ID documents. Computerized checks revealed 20 people who had been traveling with stolen or lost passports.

Officers of the immigration services of the National Border Guard carried out 19 raids on hotels, entertainment venues and other public places, checking the documents of 271 people, including 201 foreigners and 70 residents of Latvia.
Authorities launched administrative action against 101 individuals for various violations imposing fines in the total value of 4,610 lats (EUR 6,559).
