On May 20, 1463, Kazimieras Jogailaitas expanded Kaunas' sovereignty. Ever since, the city has always taken this time, every year, to celebrate itself.
Some years, the city has released an anthology of verse about the city's festivals. Some years they have minted commemorative coins. There are folk art fairs, concerts with professionals and amateurs, and pretty much everything else you could imagine.
