The Internet communication firm Skype, which was set up with Estonian participation two-and-a-half years ago, now has over 100 million registered users. "Skype has grown wildly because it allows you to do what only recently looked impossible: to speak with a person anywhere in the world, regardless of how long, without having to pay anything," said managing director and co-founder Niklas Zennstrom. Skype software is available in 27 languages and is being used in nearly every country. In Q1 this year the firm earned a profit of 445 million kroons (28.4 million euros).

Cilija, the pizza chain operator, said its consolidated sales for the first quarter surged 32 percent year-on-year to 25.5 million litas (7.4 million euros). Sales in Lithuania rose by 27 percent to 21.1 million litas, while Latvian sales soared by 66 percent to 4.75 million litas. Mindaugas Gumauskas, head of Cilija's marketing department, attributed the strong growth in sales to the chain's rapid expansion and active marketing.
