VILNIUS/RIGA (BNS) - The Lithuanian subsidiary of Estonia's Hansabank opened its first branch office in the northern part of this country at the end of August.

The office in Panevezys, some 130 km. northwest of Vilnius, will service the whole northern region of Lithuania where Hansabank sees many potential customers, the Baltic News Service was told at the bank's head office in Vilnius.

Hansabank, which started business in Lithuania in late June, plans to open one more branch office in Vilnius this year and to set up an office in the seaport of Klaipeda next year.

Hansabanka is also planning this year to open two or three new branches in Riga and probably two new branches outside Riga too.

Currently Hansabanka has 21 branches across Latvia, five of them in Riga, and eight account offices.
