VILNIUS 's The Social Liberals said on Tuesday they were leaving the ruling coalition and recalling its two ministers from the government.
In the words of party leader Arturas Paulauskas, who was deposed from his seat at the head of Parliament earlier in the day, "After considering the current situation, the Social Liberals decided they no longer have the moral or legal conditions for staying in the coalition."
He said the Social Liberals, which had two ministers, including Foreign Minister Antanas Valionis, could no longer trust their coalition partners. "After looking through the list of those who voted, we see that the no-confidence campaign produced a result with support of our coalition partners. So we think that our trust is well-grounded," said Paulauskas.
