VILNIUS 's Arturas Paulauskas, speaker of Lithuania's parliament and leader of the Social Liberals, failed to pass a vote of no-confidence on Tuesday and was removed from his post.
Ninety-four MPs supported the measure, which was initiated by the opposition, suggesting that many of Paulauskas' coalition partners backed the move.
Paulauskas has come under fire after the "privilege scandal" erupted at Parliament's chancellery.
Lawmakers designated Vydas Gedvilas of the Labor Party as acting speaker.
