Res Publica to support Ilves as presidential candidate

TALLINN 's On April 6 Res Publica Party named its three presidential candidates, however the party is prepared to support also MEP Toomas Hendrik Ilves proposed by three other parliament parties.
"If Ilves is the candidate who can make five parties find the necessary unity in parliament then Res Publica will not stand in the way of such an agreement," Chairman Taavi Veskimagi told BNS.
After the meeting of the five parliament parties set on finding a mutually acceptable presidential candidate Res Publica noted that although the party board decided earlier to name three own candidates, its members expressed support for Ilves as well.
Ilves was on the lists of presidential candidates of the Reform Party, Pro Patria Union and the Social Democratic Party, where he is a member.
Res Publica's own candidates are Deputy Speaker of Parliament Ene Ergma, Aaviksoo and the Chairman of the Board of Eesti Telekom, Jaan Mannik.
