RIGA - Parliament turned down a proposal submitted by the leftist alliance For Human Rights in United Latvia on constitutional amendments providing non-citizens voting rights in municipal elections.
The amendments would allow non-citizens, as provided for by law, to participate in state and local government politics, and to hold a position in the civil service, as well as the right to vote in municipal elections.
The alliance also proposed amending the law on municipal elections and voters' register.
