TALLINN - The European Commission informed the Estonian Interior Ministry that it planned to extend the deadline of activities financed from the Schengen Facility program from the end of this year until Sept. 30, 2007.

The Commission pointed to other postponed deadlines for major investments, such as the extensive information technology and development of border guard systems, as well as Estonia's need to observe the time-extensive regulations of public procurement tenders.

Under the Commission's decision, contracts for procurements to be financed at the expense of Schengen Facility resources must be signed by Dec. 31, the ministry said.
