A Border Guard helicopter detected pollution in the Gulf of Finland on March 7 near the site where a Dominican ship carrying aluminum sank two days earlier.

The helicopter found a one-kilometer oil slick in the ice channel, a spokesman for the Border Guard said. The helicopter monitored five square kilometers of water.

Plans are underway at the Environment Inspectorate to analyze samples of oil in the water to determine its effect on the environment.
