Latvian citizen detained by Swedish police

RIGA - Sarma Kocane, representative of the Latvian Maritime Administration confirmed that The Swedish police have detained the Latvian citizen, who is the master of the Vita cargo ship that recently ran aground near the Swedish coast.

However, the fact that shipmaster was drunk is not proved yet.

The Maritime Administration so far has not confirmed the media reports that the shipmaster had been drunk.

The Vita is sailing under the Antiguan flag and has a multi-national crew of ten people. In addition to the shipmaster, two more crewmen are residents of Latvia.

The crew was not harmed in the accident and no damage was done to the hull of the vessel.
