Hansabank upset with Russian Tax Board

TALLINN - The Russian arm of the Hansabank Group is steeped in a row with the Russian Tax Board over the latter's refusal to reimburse VAT already paid on leased goods. The matter involves lease contracts on rail cars that paved the way for Hansabank's business in Russia. "I won't disclose the sum, but it's large," said Lauri Reinberg, deputy chief of the Russian operation, told the daily Postimees on Jan. 20.The bankers are seeking the return of VAT already paid in Russia. As in Estonia, Russian leasing companies can seek reimbursement of VAT on goods they have leased to other parties.Vero...
