Latvia is third in transposition of the EU directives

RIGA - According to the data of the European commission Latvia has the third best result among 25 EU member states in transposition of the EU directives.

In words of Latvian Justice Ministry officials, by January 1, 2006, Latvia was expected to transpose a total of 2,666 directives, of which 2,652 directives or 99.47 percent had been introduced in the national laws.

However, Lithuania, having transposed 2,658 directives or 99.77 percent of the total of 2,664 directives it was required to introduce, that way showing the best result.

Poland is taking a second place with 2,642 directives or 99.77 percent of the total of 2,648 directives to be transposed.

In April 2005 Latvia was the third from the bottom on the list of EU member states by transposition of the EU directives. In September 2005 Latvia was fifth, but at the beginning of 2006 it had risen to the third place from the top.
