RIGA - Popstar Marija Naumova, informally known as Marie N., has been chosen as UNICEF goodwill envoy to Latvia, the organization said.

Naumova's fellow ambassadors include such international celebrities as Hollywood actress Nicole Kidman, British popstar Robbie Williams and soccer player David Beckham, among others.

The goodwill envoy's main goal is to promote children's welfare and rights, to take part in charity campaigns and to raise public awareness on children's rights.

Marie N. became a national star in 2002 when she won the Eurovision song contest in Tallinn with her song "I Wanna."
