TALLINN 's The Postimees daily reported that Joaquin Almunia, the European Union's economic and monetary affairs commissioner, was using outdated information to defend his argument that Estonia's switch to the euro should be delayed.

In an opinion article published in the Wednesday edition of Postimees, Almunia wrote that some EU members would apparently have to postpone their accession to the eurozone due to soaring high inflation, or for hesitation over eliminating their budget deficits.

"Excessive haste will be ruled out for legal reasons, and would be economically disastrous too," the commissioner said.
