RIGA - Defense Minister and leader of the center-right New Party Einars Repse announced that, in respect of his political career, he would sell his properties to clear his debts.

"I want to do this," Repse said in an interview with Latvian public radio. "Presently, I have placed my properties on the market for sale... I am waiting for serious potential buyers, I have set my price, and am not going to sell them [the properties] cheaply."

The defense minister added that he would also sell his recreation center at Lake Raznas in eastern Latvia. "This is a unique property... But it is a commercial property, I am not going to live there," he said.

However, Repse plans to keep the house built by his father in Ikskile, near Riga, and real estate in the eastern town of Barkava.
