Latvia hosts foremost minds in IT

RIGA - The seventh international information and technology exhibition Baltic IT&T 2000 entertained computer wonks at Skonto Hall April 5 to 8. The exhibition of 111 companies was organized by the Data Media Group in conjunction with the Transportation Ministry commission for Information and Technology.

Companies from Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, Scandinavia, Germany and the United States displayed new merchandise for the IT industry. The exhibition was not aimed solely at businesses but also for the general home computer user.

People who attended the exhibition received not only the latest computer information but also the latest games for entertainment use.

The hotel Radisson SAS Daugava held educational lectures April 6-7. President Vaira Vike-Freiberga launched the seminars. The theme behind the seminars was Information Technologies and Telecommunications in the Baltic States. The goal of these seminars was to discuss how the computer industry can educate people with providing information on social issues, government services, economics and legal aspects of information technology. Baltic experts in IT, telecommunications, government organizations, computer company directors and government ministers lectured on a wide variety of topics concerning the computer industry in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.
