VILNIUS - Border guards detained a runaway border-service draftee posing as a Spanish citizen. The 19-year-old Russian citizen worked for a unit in the Kaliningrad region.

Another draftee managed to escape to Russia, the State Border Guard Service reported.

Officials noticed two suspicious people dressed in civilian clothes in the town of Vistytis, near the Kaliningrad border, around 1 a.m. After noticing the guards, the two men started running toward the Kaliningrad region.

The distance from the town of Vistytis to the Lithuanian-Russian state border is only 100 meters. The border guards managed to apprehend one person, while the other escaped to Russia.

In English, the detained man told the border guards that he was a Spanish citizen, but presented no personal ID.

The teenager was arrested and is currently being questioned by state officers.
