RIGA - Foreign Minister Artis Pabriks urged Gyorgy Frunda, chairman of the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly's monitoring committee, to support lifting the post-monitoring procedure, in respects to Latvia.

Pabriks told the Baltic News Service that he was certain Frunda had gained new insights about Latvia during their meeting.

Latvia had complied with the Council's last request, the minister pointed out, and ratified the convention on national minorities. He expressed hope that Frunda would support termination of the post-monitoring procedure.

"We look good when compared to other countries, we have no reason to feel shy or afraid," said Pabriks.
