Adamkus urges Yushchenko to stay the course

VILNIUS 's President Valdas Adamkus talked to his Ukrainian counterpart on Friday by phone, urging the latter to keep on track of democratic and free-market reforms.

Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko, who sacked his government on Thursday, assured Adamkus that the situation in the country was under control, the Presidential Palace said in a statement.

Adamkus voiced hope that Ukraine would not depart from its stated course of reform and integration with Europe and NATO.
